Here are some of the Frequently Asked Questions. Feel free to email us if we can help further.
Who was Lilian Douglas? Lilian lived in Whitehaven, Cumbria, England during the 20th Century and was a member of the Royal Photographic Society. She died in 1980. During her life, she took many pictures of Cumbria, including the Lake District. These are kept by her son, Peter Douglas. They are currently being digitised by Alan Cleaver and Lesley Park so they can be once again made available to a wider public.
Can I buy copies of the pictures? Yes. You can use the printed order form or, shortly, online sales will be available.
How much do they cost? Price, inclusive of postage, are:
- 8x6 £5
- 10x8 £10
- 16 x12 £20
- 20in £35
But the quality of the negatives means we can probably handle any size at all. Most photos will crop to whichever dimension you choose but if you have a specific size you require we will be happy to oblige and can email you a jpeg of what the finished crop will look like.
How can I be sure my order will be honoured? We're a family-run concern not a major organisation. We're Alan Cleaver and Lesley Park. We live at 57 Church Street, Whitehaven, Cumbria CA27 8EX and our home phone number is 01946 696907. Online orders will be with the trusted Paypal organsation.
What are the prices and postage for overseas? If you're not in the UK, ring us with details and we'll tell you the cost/postage in your currency.
These pictures are very old; what is the quality like? Excellent. There has been some deterioration of the negatives due to age but much of this is repairable thanks to Photoshop. Where the quality of the negative (or Lilian's photography!) is not quite perfect, we will say so. And if you're not happy with your print for any reason, do let us know.
Can I order a digital copy of the picture to use in my book/on my DVD? Yes. Please email us with details of the print-run of your book or DVD so we can send you a copyright licence and give details of cost.
I have a collection of old pictures of The Lake District - would you sell these on your site for me? Most certainly. We're keen to add other photographic collections to the site. Please email us with details and we will work something out. We can also offer a digitisation service, scanning in your negatives and storing them for you on Gold Archive Cd-roms.
